Julie,

Your writing is so rich... it takes me right there with you! What a journey you have been on and will continue to be on. I'm impressed. I'm inspired. I can't wait to hear more reports as you go along. Where will you be posting on your next adventures? On FB? Have you read Barbara Kingsolver's book "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle?" I thought of this book as you were talking where she and her family raised on their own land most of their food from animals to vegetables with very little being purchased, and nothing outside their local neighborhood. You could write a totally amazing book on your time in this internship. Not only for "farming" but for "farming our souls" as you have done. Thank you so much for writing and sharing. Good luck as you move on!

Julie,

You've been on an awesome journey. As it continues I know it will enhance all of our lives... and yours most of all. Thanks for sharing.
Love,
Max

For My Sister Julie-

Sister on the Farm ©2011 Alisa Fineman

Sister, sister, sister on the farm
Hard work and weather have made you stronger now
Sister, sister, hands deep in the earth
All the wisdom learned there, sister knows its worth

Tending the garden has taught you much of life
Mother Nature’s mysteries, her struggles and delights
Nothing’s more honest than working with your hands
Nothing gets you closer than living on the land

Sister, sister closer to your roots
No matter where you travel life will bear its fruits
Healthy, brown and wholesome smiling ear to ear
Pretty as the sweet peas, as wild and sincere

Seeding, planting, weeding, milking, making cheese
Always becoming who you’re meant to be
Refugee from the city living what she loves
Never discouraged when push comes to shove

Sister, sister you have seen a change
All the things that matter are clearly now well-placed
Sister, sister, sister found her soul
Mother Earth will guide you wherever you may go

Love will follow your each and every step
And the sun will shine upon you with the wind at your back
Love has conspired to bring you in this world
Mother Earth will hold you like an oyster holds its pearl

Sister, sister there’s nothing you can’t do
Trust your perfect heart and love will come to you
Sister, sister a living’s redefined
Hidden treasure for those who dig will find

Farm to table, it ain’t nothing new
A way of life forever for a hearty few
Sometimes progress takes a few steps back
If we’re lucky to catch ourselves headed down a one way track

Sister, sister on your own now you may be
But moon and stars and seasons will guide you lovingly
Like weather there are changes, change is for the best
Now you won’t settle for anything less

Sister, sister closer to your roots
No matter where you travel life will bear its fruits
Healthy, brown and wholesome smiling ear to ear
Pretty as the sweet peas, as wild and sincere

wow kitty... what an amazing ride! your journey has been inspiring, intriguing, and uplifting. thanks for sharing it. i wish we would all share more of our journeys in life. let's bust out of our private bubbles and be more community-minded with each other... and designing a farm... what a wonderful, new exploration you are going to have. congrats for manifesting that. i bet you will have an adjustment period when you get back to LA. i would love to feel your energy now, in person, after your transformation on the farm. love you, kitty... alisa..... wonderful lyric - thanks for sharing!
